SIRLIM: Navelim Villagers Union edged past Candolim Sports Club 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of 24th All-Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side football at Chinchinim church ground, Thursday.
Aman Govekar scored for Candolim in the 41st minute while Navelim got their goals through Clinton Niasso in the 52nd minute whilst Danstan Fernandes netted the match-winner in the 68th minute.

Both teams tried to gauge each other’s strength at the start. However, it was Candolim who enjoyed a slight advantage over their rivals, forcing ample of corner-kicks which they failed to convert into their advantage.
In between, Clinton Niasso of Navelim put himself in a good position but failed to give direction to his try. At the other end Anson failed with his header off a corner kick.
Crossing over, the teams exerted pressure. It was Aman Govekar who broke the deadlock when he shot home from close range in a goalmouth melee to put Candolim into the lead.
Clinton Niasso restored parity for Navelim and Danstan Fernandes scored the match-winner to put last year’s winners in the last four stage.
Navelim Villagers Union will meet the winners of Arlem YA Raia and Maina SC.
