MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union blanked Chinchinim Villagers Union 3-0 to move into the semi-finals of late Bernardo Furtado memorial football tournament organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Rosary ground, on Wednesday.
In the first half, the score was nil. Both the teams played an attacking football with player-to-player marking but the strikers’ moves were foiled by the defenders.
In the very 4th minute, Navelim Villagers through Bitu Singh made an attempt but his shot was saved by goalkeeper of Chinchinim Villagers off a supply by Alister Gomes.
Chinchinim Villagers in the 23rd minute failed to capitalise on Tunard Fernandes move, off a supply by Domnic Rodrigues, as Navelim Villagers defender thwarted the goal scoring opportunity.
Crossing over, Navelim Villagers regrouped with renewed ideas. They netted their first goal in the 37th minute when Bitu’s snap shot went straight into the rival goal off an assist by Alister.
Navelim Villagers soon doubled their lead in the 43rd minute through Sandy Colaco’s ground shot off a pass by Alister.
Alister after assisting in both the goal, this time he had his name on the scorer list, being on target in the 48th minute after receiving a through pass from Bitu.
