PANJIM: Over 100 swimmers are expected to participate in Swimathon2013 to be held on March 24 at Grand Hyatt Goa, Bambolim Beach, at 8 a.m.
This is the largest number ever to have participated in the Swimathon, presently in its third edition. The event offers Rs 20,000 in cash prizes for the winners.

At a press conference held in the city today, Swimathon organizer Elias Patel said that the response was growing every year, and swimmers from outside Goa, too, would participate. He said spot entries would be accepted.
Recreation Manager of Grand Hyatt Goa Ram Chatterjee said that the resort supports efforts to promote healthy recreation in the community, and said this year’s event would be a grand success like last year.
Ajit Prabhu of NRB Events, the event management agency for Swimathon, said the NRB Group believes in promoting sports, and was backing the Swimathon for the second year in succession.
Swimmers for the 2km and 1km races will have to report at the beach at 7.30 a.m., while those participating in the 250m race would have to reach by 9 a.m.
Sponsors for the event include Grand Hyatt Goa, NRB Group, Wallace Pharma, Kingfisher, Corporation Bank, Department of Sports – Government of Goa, Latest Tailor (Speedo), IDBI Bank, Vintage Hospital, Magsons Superstore and Rotary Club of Panjim Riviera.
