PANJIM: Panjim Veterans edged past Quepem Veterans 2-1 in the final of Quepem Seamen Cup, organized by Seamen of Quepem, at Borimol sports ground, Quepem, recently.
Panjim were impressive from the start as Levino worked his magic and sprayed some beautiful passes to his strikers.
In the 15th minute, Panjim broke the deadlock as Pascoal head the ball in from a corner kick.
Quepem tried hard to equalize but Edward’s shot was tipped over to safety by the Panjim keeper. Pascoal was in thick of action yet again and scored the second goal before the break.
Post resumption, Quepem Veterans put up a better display and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
Finally, Edward reduced the margin for Quepem with a power-packed shot past Panjim keeper.
Quepem continued to pressurize but the Panjim defence stood firm till the final whistle. They were richer by Rs 22,000 and a trophy while Quepem had to settle for Rs 18,000.
Individual prizes were awarded to Best goalkeeper Prakash Naik, Quepem Veterans, Best defender Ramesh Palkar (Panjim Veterans), Best midfielder Pele Fernandes (Quepem Veterans), Best striker and man-of-the-match Pascoal Pereira (Panjim Veterans).
Chief guest MLA Subhash Phal Dessai gave away the prizes in the presence of special invitees Manuel Colaco, Yogesh Bene, Joe Fernandes, Rajeev Sukhthanker, Avadoot Amonkar, Yogesh Kunkolienkar and John Fernandes.
