BANDORA: Panjim Veterans to defeated Navelim Veterans 5-3 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the all-Goa Veterans Soccer Tournament organized by Ponda Veterans Club in association with Dr. Ketan Bhatikar’s Rehalibation Center, played at Dayanand Bandodkar ground, Bandora, on Tuesday.
In the 8th minute, Navelim’s Claudio headed the ball to the far corner off a free kick off Orlando Viegas to give a 1-0 lead. Claudio doubled the lead from the top of the box after he was laid by Orlando in his way to crash his shot into the nylons past the Panjim keeper. Navelim could have increased the lead but Orlando Viegas’ shot was punched away by the Panjim keeper. Before the half time, Pascoal Pereira got the ball from Avinash in the danger zone and reduced the margin.
In the second half, Panjim went all out into attack but could not get past Navelim’s defence but Abreu and Pascoal took long ranger shots. Pascoal from the centre gave a diagonal pass to Abreu on the flank who then cut past a defender and curled his shot which beat the Navelim keeper to level the score 2-2.
In the tie-breaker, Pascoal, Nagesh, Raymond, Neville and Avinash scored for Panjim whereas Orlando, Frank, Claudio were on target for Navelim.
