VARCA: Pedda A Boys defeated Demis 7-6 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Chelsea Memorial Varca inter-ward football played at Varca ground, on Tuesday.
Demis took the early lead in the third minute when Clayton connected a well measured pass to Jason who scored the first goal of the match with a power drive shot which gave no chance for the rival keeper. Pedda A missed when Macban’s header sailed over the bar off Felix’s cross.
Ajoy doubled the lead for Demis with a neat placement shot six minutes later.
This could have been the best scoring chance for Pedda as Veown collected the ball from Joel and made a daunting run into Demis box but the three men defence –Ajoy, Clinton and Jason tackled the later’s move. As the match progressed Sandeep sent in a diagonal pass to Clinton, whose close range shot was saved by rival keeper Maxwell.
Pedda attacked through Wiffan whose goal bound shot was palmed away to safety by Albino, keeper of Demis.
Pedda substititute Succor pulled a goal back with a fine placement shot at the half hour mark. Within six minutes Yunal levelled terms for Pedda A. The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Pedda A proved to be better shooters.
Pedda A Boys will meet Pedda C in the quarter-finals on September 4.
