VARCA: Pedda A blanked NovangullyA 3-0 to lift the 2nd late Chelsea Memorial Varca inter-ward Football trophy organised by Varca United, at Varca Sports Club ground on Sunday.
Both teams started the match on forefront move as Pedda’s Joylon took control of the ball from Aaron and shot from the top of Novangully A box but the latter’s shot hit the rival side netting in the third minute.
Two minutes later, Pedda A opened the account in the 13th minute through Arron who doubled the account by placing the ball neatly in the far corner of the net.
After change of ends, Novangully’s Jhonus missed two easy sitters. Aaron made it 3-0 for Pedda A in the 56th minute.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 while the runners up received Rs 20,000 plus trophies.
Churchill Alemao, MLA of Benaulim constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Roland Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Varca, Sr Liby Fernandes, Headmistress, St Micheal school, Anjuna and other dignitaries and club officials.
Meanwhile, St Mary’s HS, Varca defeated St Pius HS, Orlim 4-3 via the tie-breaker in the girls exhibition match.
