MAPUSA: Pilerne SC got the better of Merces SC 4-2 to enter the semis of Pio Jose Gouveia Memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by YSC Colvale, at Colvale church ground, on Friday.
Pilerne took the lead in the fifth minute, through Dwayne Britto’s header off a perfect cross by Russel Fernandes to give his side the lead.
In the 12th minute, Pilerne keeper Krupesh Bandodkar came up with a brilliant save off Karan Shirodkar’s angular drive.
At the other end, in the 28th minute, Pilerne doubled their lead through Russel Fernandes off an assist by Savrav Naik to make it 2-0.
On crossing ends, in the 52nd minute, Pilerne scored their third goal through Suraj Kauthankar.
The never say die spirit saw Merces reduce the margin through Jayender Kunkoleinkar’s strike in the 56th minute to make it 1-3.
Merces made it 2-3 in the 67th minute through Sarvesh Kanekar.
Pilerne scored their fourth goal in the 68th minute through Yeshwant More with a neat placement to make it 4-2.
