PANJIM: Ponda Footballers came from behind to overpower Santo Esteven Sports Club 3-1 in GFA’s under-16 First Division League, at Santo Esteven ground, on Friday.
Santo Esteven took the lead early in the match as their player handed the ball inside the box and scored. Ponda Footballers appealed for the hand ball but the referee declared the goal.
Later, Ponda Footballers coach Jude Fernandes moved Delberg Vaz from the defence to half line, which proved to be fruitful, as Franky from the flanks chipped the ball giving Delberg the chance to equalise.
In the second half, Ponda Footballers went all out to take the lead and managed to score as Yogesh’s long ranger beat the keeper hands down to make it 2-1.
With the lead, Ponda Footballers dominated the match. In the last quarter, Delberg and Tekraj combined in a wall pass and the latter scored to seal the fate of Santo Esteven.
