MAPUSA: PVC Parra held their nerves to get the better of Goan Warriors by 2-1 margin in the GFA’s 2nd Division league played at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.
All the goals came in the first session of play with Sankish and Maruti Harijon finding the net for Parra while Oscar pulled a goal back for Goan Warriors.
Both teams playing their first league match started positively and it was in the fifth minute when Parra opened the scoring through Sankish who guided the ball into the net from a corner taken by Dietmar Fernandes.
Parra should have consolidated their lead minutes later but Alistar who was put through by Dietmar could not keep the shot goal wards with only Goan Warriors keeper at his mercy.
Goan Warriors kept probing and finally succeeded in getting back on terms in the 38th which was a gift as Parra keeper Marshal Fernandes made a mess of the long floater into the box by Shanti and Oscar who was lurking nearby wasted no time in dispatching the ball into the unguarded goal, 1-1.
However, Parra held their cool and made it 2-1 minutes before the half-time whistle from the spot-kick which was converted by Maruti Harijon after Santil handled the ball inside the penalty box.
Changing ends, Goan Warriors pushed more men forward to get back on terms but Parra defended resolutely until the final whistle to open campaign with full three points.
