PANJIM: Rosary College, Navelim will clash with holders Carmel College, Nuvem in the final of the Inter-College Football Championship for Women at Goa University ground, Taleigao Plateau, on Tuesday.
In the first semi-final, Rosary College easily put it across Vidya Prabodhini College, Porvorim 10-0. Vega Fernandes (two), Marlat Cardozo ( four), Jeromina Colaco (two) Anline Fernandes (one), Nevilla Colaco (one) got their names on the score sheet.
In the well contested second semis, Carmel College edged past St Xavier’s College, Mapusa 5-4 via the tie-breaker.
A direct strike from 20 yards off a free kick by Scindia Saundatikar in the 28th minute put Xavier’s ahead. Immediately in the next minute, Carmel College equalised through a well-placed shot from Akshata Patil.
The teams could not add to their tally in the second half. So, the score at the end of regulation time was 1-1 draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Vailanka D’Souza, Valenie Fernandes, Lifa Gama and Alisha Tavares scored for Carmel College while Scindia Saundatikar, Shilpa Bhakta, Rhea Noronha were on target for St Xavier’s.
