CURTORIM: Rumba defeated Agxem 5-3 via the tie-breaker to sail into the final of the 4th Jose and Franky Memorial inter-ward football, at St Alex church ground, Curtorim, on Friday.
In an exciting semi-final match, both the team played attacking football. In the third minute Agxem’s Nickson Castanha shot from close range but his attempt was well saved by the Rumba keeper Valentino Sequeira.
Rumba’s striker Princely Oliviera missed an easy chance as he failed to tap the ball in off a fine cross by Arjun Amor. In the second half, Agxem’s Joel Martin’s free-kick was saved by the Rumba keeper in the 48th minute.
Minutes later, Rumba created good moves but their strikers Kingsley and Arjun Amor didn’t utilise the chances.
It was the excellent keeping by Valentino Sequeira that denied Agxem strikers Nickson and Joshley Gomes from scoring in the 56th and 60th minutes respectively.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Rumba scored through Arjun Amor, Clive Colaco, Princely Oliveira, Arfan and Nelson Paes while Nickson, Agnelo Gomes and Joshley Gomes netted for Agxem.
