MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club maintained their unbeaten run by getting the better of Bardez Football Club 3-1 in the Goa Professional League match, organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.
Salgaocar enjoying the major possession in the match were found trailing 1-0 at half time when Bardez FC Dwayne Ticlo smartly guided the ball past the outstretched hands of keeper Jason D’Mello with U-20 Richard Cardoz being the provider in the 45th minute.
Urgen Pinto was outstanding under the post twice who denied Ronaldo Oliveira and later Sanson Pereira as the Green Brigade kept marauding their rivals’ territory in search of the opening goal.
Bardez FC who were on the back foot almost made it 2-0 in the added time but Cho Lepcha failed to get a touch off a wonderful free-kick taken by Richard Cardozo with the Salgaocar’s defence caught napping.
Crossing ends, Salgaocar showed more urgency once in the final third and were rewarded with three well struck goals through Mackroy Peixoto (71st min), Daniel Gomes (81st min) and Stephen Satarkar (90th min).
Before that in the 54th minute, Chaitan Komarpant’s through pass found well positioned Samuel Costa but before any damage could be done defender Luis Miranda cleared the ball for a corner and then keeper Urgen once again rose to the occasion by coming up with a superlative save to deny Denil Rebello’s in finding the equaliser nine minutes later.
Ronaldo Oliveira was unlucky again when his sizzling shot from close range was well stopped by the keeper Urgen and the ball rolled to Devendra Murgaonkar who surprisingly tapped the ball straight into the keeper’s hands.
It required something special to get the better of keeper Urgen and in the 71st minute Salgaocar were awarded a penalty after Ronaldo’s goal bound shot was stopped by Bardez defender Mobin Rai. Skipper Mackroy Peixoto who stepped forward made no mistake with his placement 1-1.
Daniel Gomes finding keeper Urgen out of his goal area tried his luck with a long ranger in the 81st minute which nestled in the far corner off the goal to make it 2-1.
Stephen Satarkar who was denied a goal by keeper Urgen a minute earlier finally found the back of the nets with a deft placement to give full points to his team to make it 3-1.
