NAGOA-VERNA: Salgaocar Football Club blanked Churchill Brothers Sports Club 5-0 in the Hero Sub-Junior Youth League match organised by All India Football Federation and played at Nagoa Panchayat ground, Verna on Thursday.
It was a match that delighted the spectators where the upcoming youngsters – Salgaocar FC’s Rui Carlo De Piedade Noronha and Churchill Bros’ Ismail Mohamad Shaikh showcased great skills and determination.
In the fourth minute Salgaocar’ s Gaurav S Bhandari’s solo effort was tackled by Churchill Brothers’ defender Athrav Ghandi.
Two minutes later Churchill Brothers’ Ismael Mohammad Shaikh’s move was thwarted by Salgaocar’s M C Rodrigues.
The Green Brigade took the lead in the 12th minute when Joen Somoes curled his free-kick in the goal, giving no chance for the rival custodian.
Minutes later, Rui Carlo de Piedade Noronha’s left footer narrowly missed the Churchill’s frame.
SalgaocarFC further inflated the lead through Flan Crasto whose shot brushed Churchill Brothers’ keeper Manure Ali Mahammad Manki and entered the goal, 2-0.
At the other end, Churchill Bros’ striker Ismail M Shaikh ran down the left flank dribbling past couple of Salgaocar players but a last ditch tackle from Hayden Cassiano Fernandes thwarted the danger.
In the 32nd minute, Salgaocar’s Salvador Gama made it 3-0.
Churchill Bros’ players just couldn’t get the much needed breakthrough. Dalwin Coelho tried his luck from distance but his effort also sailed over the bar.
But Salgaocar FC weren’t the side to waste their chances and soon made it 4-0 when Rui Carlo de Piedade Noronha made his way into the rival box and scored with a deft placement shot, 4-0. The winners led 4-0 at the break. Crossing over, Salgaocar FC netted their fifth through Rui Noronha in the 47th minute.
Later Churchill’s Ismail move was foiled by Salgaocar’s Gaurang Singh Bhandari.
