VASCO: Salgacoar Football Club will look to put the last I-League season behind them and push for a higher position as they host Bengaluru FC at the Tilak Maidan, here, on Saturday. The kick off is 7.05 p.m. and will be telecast live on Ten Action.
“We have Bengaluru first up who are a strong and organized team and have done very well over the last two seasons since their debut in the I-League. I am happy with the training our players have put in and we will look to do our best with a never say die attitude. The first few matches in the I-League are important because it’s not a very long league so we need to have a good start,” said Salgaocar FC Head Coach Malcolm who took charge of the team at the start of the season.
Karanjit Singh has been appointed captain for the season and will look to guide the team with his experience as the last line of defence.
Darryl Duffy is back with the team after missing the Goa League while he was on loan with FC Goa. The club has welcomed back a host of player who played in the ISL like Keenan Almeida, Gurjinder Singh, Gilbert Oliviera, Augustin Fernandes, Saran Singh and Nicalau Colaco.
The Greens has further bolstered the squad with three signings from Royal Wahingdoh Setyasen Singh, Reagen Singh and last seasons I-League Player of the Season Jackychand Singh as well as Manandeep Singh from Kerala Blasters.
Martin Scott from Scotland and Calvin Mbarga from Australia are the new foreigner signings who will look to add depth to the squad.
Bengaluru FC coached by Ashley Westwood will pose an immediate threat to any plans of Salgaocar FC having retained most of their squad including India skipper Sunil Chetri, John Johnson, Curtis Osano, Thoi Singh, Rino Anto all coming back to the squad.
