PANJIM: Salgaocar FC started off their GFA Under 18 campaign on a winning note by beating Goa Velha SC 4-1 at Cansaulim ground, on Tuesday.
From the first whistle the Green Brigade attacked with fluent passing and quick runs in the rival box but lacked finishing.
After a long wait Selveno Gonsalves opened the scoring with a well placed header to give a 1-0 lead.
The Greens captain Rollwin Almeida caused problems down the left flank where the defenders were put to the test.
In the 36th minute, Ribhav Sardesai who collected the ball on the edge of the box lashed in a superb volley leaving the rival keeper flat footed only to see the ball hit the upright and crash into the back of the net, 2-0. Salgaocar led 2-0 at the break.
On resumption there was no change in the style of play. It was Salgaocar colts who attacked and held high defence line. Levy Teles Pereira made it 3-0 in the 58th minute.
In the 65th minute Goa Velha got the only chance to try for a goal through a free kick where Lynson Vaz made no mistake, 1-3. Substitue Chaitan Komarpant scored a perfect curler to make it 4-1.
