PANJIM: Goa’s Sanjana Prabhugaonkar excelled at the 48th Junior National Aquatic Championships, winning five medals including four silver and a bronze medal at the Biju Patnaik Pool, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar Orissa.
At the event held from July 16 to 20, Sanjana began impressively with a silver on the opening day. She won the first of her silvers in the 200m women’s girls (15 to 17 year category), clocking 2:09:69 , along with Vritti Agarwal. Aanya Wala of Maharashtra took the gold medal with 2:08:91 . The bronze went to Telengana with a timing of 2:09:79.

Sanjana’s second silver medal came in the 100m backstroke (15 to 17), clocking 1:07:09 along with Nina Venkatesh . Ridhima Veerendra Kumar of Karnataka struck gold with 1:04 :96.
Another silver came Sanjana’s way on day three of the event. She clocked 30:83 in the 50m backstroke for the honour after finishing second to Ridhima Veerendra Kumar of Karnataka who clocked 30.25. Shalini Dixit of Karnataka finished with the bronze medal with 31.24.
Sanjana kept up the good work in the pool with another silver the following day, this time in the 200m backstroke (15-17 year category). The Goan girl clocked 2:25:90. The bronze went to Maharashtra’s Palak Joshi.
On day four, Sanjana won her fourth silver in the 200m backstroke (15 to 17) with timing of 2:25:90 pipping Palak Joshi of Maharashtra (2:27:15) who finished third. The gold went to Ridhima Veerendra Kumar of Karnataka (2:24 :25).
Sanjana wasn’t yet done, however, and clinched a bronze medal on the concluding day in the 100m freestyle with a timing of 1:00:62. Nina Venkatesh of Karanataka won gold (59:91). The silver medal went to Aanya Wala of Maharashtra (1:00:44).
Sanjana is undergoing full time competitive high performance swimming training in Dubai under the tutelage and mentorship of coach Pradeep Kumar At the Aqua Nation Sports Academy.
