UTORDA: Sao Jose de Areal SC blanked Goa Velha SC 2-0 to march into quarter-finals of 27th Lourdes football festival organised by UC Utorda in memory of their past president Rocky Noronha, at Utorda SAG ground, on Saturday.
Goa Velha started the match on a promising note and dominated the first 20 minutes but failed to convert the opportunities into goals.
Areal bounced back into the action and Monty Valadares drew the first blood in the 33rd minute. The score at lemon break was 1-0.
Post resumption, Goa Velha fortified the attacks into the rival territory but their strikers missed three golden opportunities. Areal created an opportunity and scored the second goal in the 68th minute with the efforts of Jesten Fernandes. Areal will now meet the winner of PY Nuvem and Uguem Rising Club in the quarter-final on October 28.
