MARGAO: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim edged past Ambelim Sports Club via the tie-breaker 5-4 in the final to clinch the 14th Chinchinim-Deusua Panchayat Cup organized by CRC Chinchinim at Chinchinim church ground, on Sunday.
At the full time score was tied at 1-1 draw.
In the first half, the teams played a promising game but failed to capitalize on the chances which came their way to score.
Crossing over, Raju Cardozo opened the scoring Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the 35th minute after receiving a pass from Crisburn Estibeiro.
Ambelim Sports Club in search of an equalizer upped their pace and raided the rival citadel time and again. They tasted success in the 49th minute after Premson Fernandes found the back of the net off a pass from Nial Cardozo.
Cavelossim in the 59th minute had an opportunity to seal the game but Polyson D’Sa shot the ball above the cross bar having just the Ambelim goalkeeper to beat.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Mohamand Sheikh, Polyson D’Sa, Crisburn Estibeiro and Hastel Dias scored for Cavelossim while Yuri Ferrao and Edsal Rodrigues failed. For Ambelim, Ralph Colaco, Nial Cardozo and Michael D’Silva were on target while Ramson Fernandes, Jade Colaco and Clifran Fernandes missed the mark.
Arjuna awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar was the chief guest while Shubert Furtado was the guest of honour and distributed the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Other individual prizes awarded were: Best disciplined team Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao, best losing team St Rock, Calata-Majorda, most promising player of the tournament Vishal Fernandes (UC Benaulim), first goal of the final Raju Cardozo (SCC Cavelossim), farewell goal of the final Cremson Fernandes, best goalkeeper Mohamand Sheikh, best defender Blasco Fernandes (Ambelim Sports Club), best half of the final Crisburn Estibeiro, Best forward Premson Fernandes (Ambelim SC).
Earlier in the U-14 exhibition match, SAG RCC Ponda won against Velim Constituency Youth Development Centre.
