MAPUSA: Young Clencio Pinto, who came on as a second half substitute scored the match-winner as Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim edge past Guardian Angel Sports Club 2-1 in the fifth round match of the Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday. There was no score at half time.
Guardian Angel SC got off to a perfect start as they managed to penetrate into the rival territory. They could have taken an early lead but Estevan Mendes was left frustrated as his two quick efforts were blocked by Cavelossim custodian Ram Sroop at close range.
At the other end, Joshua Vaz came close to scoring but the latter’s shot was parried away to safety by Guardian Angel SC keeper Jovial Coutinho.
The trend continued in the second session. Cavelossim made a double substitution as by Mathew Colaco and Joel Fernandes made way for Melwin Fernandes and Clencio respectively.
In the 58th minute, Cavelossim scored an own-goal through Rovan Pereira. However, ten minutes later, Severino Fernandes’ boys bounced back as Joshua finished past the rival custodian with a deft placement.
As the match became frantic, Cavelossim gained momentum and in the 84th minute, Clencio sealed victory with a clinical finish.
