MAPUSA: United Club of Verna proved to be too good as they registered a fluent 3-1 win over Saligao United Sports Club to enter the semi-finals of Candolim Panchayat Cup in the quarter-final match played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground,
Candolim, on Friday. It was Saligao United SC colts that stunned the visitors with a 3rd minute goal.
Paulo Jobo tapped the ball gently into the net, 1-0.
10 minutes later, Royden Rego of UC Verna missed an open sitter.
Finally in the 15th minute, UC Verna equalised through Sheldon Pereira of a cross from Jesloy, 1-1.
Clifton Rebello almost netted the second goal but Saligao United SC keeper Augustine D’Mello brought a brilliant save.
UC Verna further increased their lead in the 42nd minute when Lenon Pereira headed the ball into the net, of a cross from Royden Rego to make it 2-1.
In the closing stages of the match, Sheldon Pereira netted his brace and the third goal for UC Verna of a cross from Fulganco Cardozo, 3-1. United Club of Verna’s Sheldon Pereira received the man-of-the-match award.
