MAPUSA: Chandrashekar Chinta and Boima Karpeh scored a goal each in either session to put defending champions Sporting Clube de Goa back into winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Vasco Sports Club, in GFA’s Goa Professional League, round six match, at Duler Stadium, here, Sunday.
Defender Chinta put his team in front with a powerfully guided header while Australian-Liberian Boima came on as a substitute and scored the second goal in the 78th minute.
Sporting Clube moved into the fourth spot with eight points while Vasco are in the sixth spot with seven points.
Sporting Clube were far disciplined from their previous 3-2 defeat, which they suffered at the hands league leader Santa Cruz Clube of Cavelossim.
Head coach Oscar Bruzon started with experienced Creson Antao, who made his debut for the club in the centre-back position. The Flaming Oranje controlled the first session and exerted tremendous pressure with over five flag-kicks. However, they were not sharp in their set pieces and only took the lead through Chandrashekar’s header off a perfect cross Rowllin Borges in the ninth minute.
Vasco’s best chance to equalize came minutes later when Sporting Clube keeper Melroy Fernandes was stretched to tip over a rasping free-kick by Don Fernandes.
As the match progressed, Sporting Clube continued to attack but efforts from Creson and Victorino missed the target narrowly.
Changing ends, the match settled into a familiar patter. It became lively only in the final quarter when Vasco front man Jerose Oliveira came close to scoring on two occasions. First, his close range header was parried away by keeper Melroy and soon, Sporting Club’e Cajetan Fernandes left him frustrated with a goalline clearance.
At the other end, the Panjim outfit secured their second goal through Boima, who came in place of Victorino.
The lanky striker nodded in from close range after Beevan provided a precise cross from the right flank, 2-0.
