Sporting start on bright note

PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 win against Bastora Boys in the men’s senior state hockey championship at Don Bosco ground, here, Wednesday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the break through a Neville Rodrigues strike.
In the second session, Sunny Fernandes, Akash Vazarkar and Anil Naik scored for the Flaming Oranje while the Bastora Boys pulled back a consolation goal in the closing stages.
Sporting Goa’s remaining group matches will be against Young Sports on February 2 and Stars of Sattari on February 10, at the same venue.
The top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals of the North District play-offs.
