Rapid chess at Shiroda
PANJIM: The Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology will conduct the silver jubilee celebration All-Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament on February 9 and 10 at RI ET college hall, Shiroda under aegis of Ponda Taluka Chess Association and Goa Chess Association.
The total prize money is Rs 25,000. Age group category prizes and special prizes will also be given to students of colleges managed by the society and from Shiroda.
The timings 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. February 9 and 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Febraury 10.

Hockey, football selection trials
PANJIM: The DSYA will conduct selection trilas to selct the State football and hockey teams for all-India civil services football and hockey tournaments in Bangalore (hockey, February 25-March) and Thiruvananthapuram (football, March 2-7) on February 7 at Pedem complex, Mapusa (hockey) and Febraury 8 at Santa Cruz ground (football) from 9 a.m. Permanent government employees may report at the venue with recommendation letter from the head of the department, official I-card and kit.
Sports Hostel selection trials
PANJIM: The SAI Sports Training Centre Peddem and Sports Training Centre, Ponda will conduct selection trials for new induction of residential trainees (hostel) in the 12-18 age-group and 14-18 age-group non-residential trainees for season 2013-14.
STC Peddem – girls residential (football, boxing, judo, kabaddi athletics girls); non-residential – swimming and judo boys and girls. Selection trials on February 22 and 23 at sports complex, Pedem from 9 a.m.
STC Ponda residential – football, judo, boxing taekwondo boys, non-residential boys and girls – swimming and taekwondo on February 24 and 25 from 9 a.m.
Trainees who have won medals at National and state levels will be given preference. The minimum achievement is district medal.
Trainees for residential scheme will be provided free boarding, free lodging, accidental insurance cover, limited medical allowances, education allowances of Rs.1, 000, sports kit worth Rs.4,000.
Those interested may report with four photographs, original birth certificate, ration card or Adhar card copy, medical fitness certificate along with attested photocopies of all original certificates.
