Sports journalist Jovito to be honoured today

PANJIM: Senior sports journalist Jovito Lopes will be felicitated on National Press Day by the Goa Government for his meritorious service in the field of journalism on November 16 at Institute Menezes de Braganza Conference Hall, here.
Jovito, is a double State award winner having been awarded the first award for excellence on reporting on Japanese Encephilities and and outstanding sports organiser (Bakhshi Bahaddar Jivabadad Kerkar Award). He was awarded Pope’s gold medal for his write-ups during the Pope’s visit to Goa.
He was the Media Officer-cum-assistant chef-de-mission for the 1st Lusofonia Games in Macau and chef-de-mission for 2nd Lusofonia Games in Portugal and official media translator for 3rd Lusofonia Games held in Goa.
Being the Media Manager of Churchill Bros FC, Jovito was accredited with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for three years. Prior to that, he was the Media Officer for Dempo SC and FC Goa when Zico was its coach in the very first year.
A founder member of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), the Colva-born scribe with roots in Chinchinim, was the one who conceived the idea of hosting the Nehru Cup and the building of the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda which materialised through the efforts of the then sports minister Monte Cruz. He was the secretary of Goa Olympic Association, Goa Volleyball Association, vice-president and founder member of Goa Athletics Association, Goa Carrom Association, Goa Boxing Association and member of the executive committee of GFA for 12 years.
