BENAULIM: St Jose de Areal SC thumped Carmona SC 4-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the 9th Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup, organised by Young Strikers Club Benaulim and played at St John the Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Monday.
St Jose the Areal made a whirlwind start and forged ahead in the 10th minute when winger David Colaco sent in an inch perfect cross from the left to striker Godfrey Costa who easily tapped inside the nylons.
Areal doubled the lead close to the lemon break with striker Alvito Moura finishing off a low pass by Neville. Disaster struck Carmona after restart with Neville Soares guiding the ball to the far corner beyond the reach of Carmona goalkeeper Mohammad. Carmona got a chance to reduce the margin but medio Alex Rodrigues and striker Darren Estebeiro wasted easy chances.
Bersal Viegas scored the fourth in the dying minutes of the match.
