St Joseph Educational Institute ,Chandor were clear 2-0 winners against Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal in the finals of Salcete Taluka under-17 DYSA inter-school football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Manora ground, Raia on Monday.
The match was evenly contested with both teams trying to outsmart each other in the early stages. St Joseph were ahead of their rivals after the change of ends.
Mevlon Moura put St Joseph ahead .
Stung by the reverse, Bethany Convent tried their best to neutralize the lead but St Joseph defenders were alert in thwarting the rival attacks with neat tackles.
James Fernandes scored the insurance goal late in the second half beating the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Shailendra Virdikar, Deputy Education Officer, Zone, Margao was the chief guest and gave the prizes. Earlier Bevyln Colaco, Taluka Sports Organiser (TSO) Salcete Taluka, welcomed and later proposed the vote of thanks.
