PANJIM: St Rock YC, Calata Majorda scored a hard fought 6-4 (4-2 penalties) win over Raitura SC in the Third Division League organised by Goa Football Association held at the Artificial Turf, Fatorda, on Monday.
From the beginning, both teams played an attacking brand of football with the Majorda club creating chances with some fine passes to Kevin Almeida but only to find the later in an off-side position three times.
Wilson Rebello’s cross to Alois Colaco in the 20th minute of the game saw Raitura SC open the scoring with a fine header in the right of the box taking an early lead 1-0.
10 minutes later, St Rock’s Majorda tried hard to level the score but Kevin’s fine header in the box missed the post by a whisker.
Flesban Ferrao’s header in the 35th minute could have levelled things up but his slow strike went straight to the rival goalkeeper.
Alois Colaco then doubled the lead for Raitura SC in the 39th minute with a low shot past the keeper making it 2-0. But 2 minutes later Jerry Braganza’s fine strike in the top corner of the nets reduced the margin to 2-1 in the 41st minute.
Switching over, St Rocks, Majorda fought back hard and levelled things up through Kevin Almeida with a low shot in the left corner of the post in the 54th minute making it 2-2.
Both teams fought hard to take the lead but nothing seemed to have turned their way. With things levelled up, the game went into the tie-breaker and St Rock’s Majorda proved to be better shooters.
