PANJIM: St Savio Sports Club, Calangute got the better of Goa Velha SC 1-0 to enter the semi-final of the 42nd Bandodkar memorial football tournament organized by Baina Sports Club, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Tuesday.
St Savio took the lead in the 20th minute through a delightful strike by Blake Haldankar.
Soon, Blake converted a free-kick after Goa Velha’s Melroy Silva brought down Deep Govekar at the edge of the box.
In the final quarter of the second half, Goa Velha attacked continuously with the likes of Chatur Naik, Melroy Silva and Constancio Nunes but St Savio keeper Salwyn D’Souza left them frustrated. The man-of-the-match was awarded to Joseph Rodrigues, goalkeeper of Goa Velha SC.
