PANJIM: Alex Fernandes scored the all-important goal as St Savio Sports Club, Calangute registered a solitary goal victory over Parish Youth Nuvem in the final of 16th Vagator Soccer organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club at Orzan ground, Vagator, on Sunday.
Former India international Bruno Coutinho gave the winners the edge with his fine passing and distribution.
St Savio started brightly and managed to find an opening in the 20th minute which saw Alex pull the trigger to make it 1-0 with a clinical finish which di not give nay chance to the rival Nuvem goalkeeper.
Post resumption, the visitors put up a brave performance and created several dangerous moves which kept ther overwhelming Sunday crowd on their toes.
However, Nuvem lacked ideas upfront. St Savio did equally well to protect their slender lead unitl the match referee blew the final whistle.
Goa Football Association (GFA) President and GFDC Member Secretary Elvis Gomes gave away the prizes in the presence of GFA Vice-President Lavinio Rebello and newly elected Bardez executive members Adv. Domnic Pereira, Franky Viegas, Patrick D’Souza, Raju Banaulikar, Santosh Bandodkar and Gajanan Kerkar. Club president Steven D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
