MAPUSA: St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School demolished Holy Cross High School, Siolim 5-0 to enter the quarter-finals of U-17 boy’s Bardez Taluka Subroto Mukerjee football tournament, at Tivim ground, on Saturday. The teams were locked goalless at half time.
HC Siolim played their hearts out in the first session, living their rival’s frustrated for a goal. However, St Xavier found the opening soon after resumption through a clinical finish by Kingsley D’Souza. Then, Ronaldo Martins stormed the rival territory with a blistering brace. Omkar Sawant and Sylvester D’Souza added more salt on the wounds of HC Siolim in the final quarter.
In another match, SFX High School, Siolim outplayed Gyan Prasarak Vidyalaya School, Mapusa 5-0. Dattaraj Pednekar gave SFX the lead in the first half Jairam Kadekar (2), Dattaraj and Nantan Jivaji scored after resumption.
Nevel Fernandes score a brace to guide SFX Higher Secondary School, Siolim to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Kirti Vidyalaya High School, Siolim. Denver Menezes and George Vaz were the other scorers.
St Clara High School, Assonora also advanced to the quarters by edging past St Joseph High School, Arpora 2-1. Nehal Shinde and Sanju had scored in the first session while Shatrapal Patel reduced the margin for St Joseph in the second session.
