PANJIM: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao overcame CAC Sports and Social Club 6-5 via the sudden-death to enter the semi-finals of All-Goa Matanhy Saldanha memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Velsao Villagers Association at Dr TB Cunha Sports Complex, Cansaulim. CAC lead 1-0 at halftime.
CAC forged ahead in the 20th minute when a snap shot, by veteran medio Brian Diniz from 40 yards out curled into the nets, much to the joy of the home team supporters.
In the second half the Taleigao team attacked with veteran Levino Pereira putting in long through passes. They forged ahead when Levino’s pass found Gautam Kankonkar, who from the flanks sent a cross that Bloyton Faria headed into the far corner of the net.
CAC almost surged ahead after Chadwick Furtado sent a pass to Agnelo D’Souza who found the lurking lanky Regan Julia whose shot hit the post and the rebound was messed up by Idal Fernandes.
CAC manager Jayesh Bhise effected two substitution however the failed to penetrate the Taleigao defence
In the tie-breaker, the first kick of Taleigao taken by Levino Pereira was saved a by a diving Reagan. Cedric Peixoto, Ramesh Palkar, Ferman Fernandes, Vardhan Haldankar and Garry Pereira were on target for Taleigao. For CAC, veteran Peter Rodrigues’ and Shanshuddin Honapur’s tries were saved while Brian Diniz, Chadwick Furtado, Jacinto Dias and Elvino Fernandes converted.
In an earlier quarter-final match, CRC Chinchinim got the better of Navelim Sporting 2-0.
The goals were scored by Benson Fernandes and midfielder Jorex Fernandes.
