RAIA: United Club Seraulim shocked Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, with a 2-1 victory to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by Maina Sports Club and played at the DSYA ground, Curtorim, on Saturday.
The match was evenly poised at half-time, with the scoreline reading 1-1. UC Seraulim struck first in the second minute of play when Shashank Shanke netted an early goal. Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda responded in the 17th minute, courtesy of an equaliser from Edger Noronha.
The decisive goal came in the 51st minute through Nayab Khan, following a well-coordinated team effort. Keith Rodrigues delivered a long pass to Gladstone, who fed an onrushing Nayab Khan. Khan beat the defence and goalkeeper of Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda before unleashing a powerful right-footer from close range that crashed into the net, sealing Seraulim’s place in the quarterfinals.
Alfred Noronha of Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda was adjudged man-of-the-match and received the award from Menino Sequeira.
