MARGAO: Striker Jovisco Fernandes’ brace spurred United Boys of Dando, Colva to a 2-0 victory over Cuncolim Union to cruise into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Bernardo Furtado memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Tuesday. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
United Boys dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the back foot throughout the game and their break through came in the 10th minute when Jovisco Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
The early goal helped Colva lads to mount tremendous pressure on the rival goal but could not score more goals due to inept shooting by their forwards.
Post resumption, United Boys continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and fired couple of sorties. Jovisco Fernandes who was in thick action struck second time to give his team 2-0 cushion. Cuncolim Union failed to function as a cohesive unit and hardly troubled the rival defence.
