RAIA: United Boys of Ambaulim clinched UCT Trophy defeating Canacona SCC by a solitary goal in the final of United Club of Telaulim played at government primary school ground, Telaulim, on Sunday.
From the beginning UB Ambaulim were eager to get early lead but Canacona SCC got the first opportunity through Chaitan Kamorpant but goalkeeper of UB Ambaulim Ibon Fernandes punched away for corner. Then Sowell Fernandes ran down and fired from the close range but failed to break the deadlock and both teams remained 0-0 draw at half time.
In the second session, both teams intensified their attack and UB Ambaulim’s Sowell gave cross pass from the right flank to substitute Alex Fernandes, who took powerful left footer that crush into the net and this goal turned to be the decider to emerge winners.
Former chief minister Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of All India Football Federation Women Committee Chairperson Valanka Alemao, Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, Parish Priest Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Chaplain of Mount Carmel Telaulim Fr Valentine Alvares, Rommy Ferrao, Kedar Jagdale, Lovel Carvalho, Prakash Dessai, Cris Gomes, Walter Cabral, Dr Francisco Lobo, Alister Ferrao, Romeo Gomes, other dignitaries and club officials.
