MAPUSA: Raj Jadhav shone in Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club’s solitary goal win over Cunchelim Sports Club in the GFA’s Second Division League played at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
Vagator move to four points while Cunchelim remain on one point after three league outings.
Vagator Parish Youth whose major share of proceedings should have won the match by a bigger margin if Rohit Shirodkar and Raj Jadhav had shown composure in front of the goal.
The all-important goal was scored in the 21st minute for Vagator through a pile driver from Raj Jadhav which entered the net despite a valiant attempt by keeper Dinesh Morajkar, 1-0. Akash Pawar provided the pass for the goal.
Down by a goal Cunchelim reacted positively and had three decent chances to get back on terms in the last fifteen minutes but Nayan Virnodkar and Mahableshwar Thanekar could not get the better of Vagator keeper Sanket Gaonkar in a one-to-one situation while Rama Parsenkar`s fierce shot struck the post and came back into play.
Changing end, the ball was mostly confined to the midfield wherein the 78th minute a header from Bhavesh off a cross delivered by Vagator`s Pratik Dhargalkar went harmlessly out.
Cunchelim almost got back on terms two minute later but Vagator keeper Sanket Sanket brought a fine acrobatic save to deny Rohit Kamble`s fierce 40-yard shot in entering the net.
Meanwhile in Salcete zone match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, Nuvem Sports Club scored a goal each in either half to register a 2-0 win over Carmel Sports Club.
Denitson Dias scored a brace for the winners while Carmel SC’s J Costa received marching orders in the game.
In another match at Artificial turf ground, Mandopa Sporting Club scored two goals in three minutes to beat Guirdolim Club 2-1.
Guirdolim Club had taken a seventh minute lead through Paxton Gomes. Guirdolim led 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Presly Gomes equalised in the 63rd minute for Mandopa and in within minutes, Travis Souza put his team ahead in the game. Mandopa SC won 2-1.
