Vaibhav, Bhakti presented SJAG’s Geno Sports Awards

PANJIM: Best sportsmen Vaibhav Marathe and best sportswoman chess queen Bhakti Kulkarni were presented the SJAG’s Geno Sports Awards 2018-19 at the hand of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at a city hotel, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Pramod, taking inspiration from the Geno awards, said that the government will also constitute awards for deserving sports persons.
He also promised that he would try and see what solution could be found on the attendance issues of students who miss class as they are involved in sports activities. 
There has been a constant refrain from students, parents and even administrators who are forced to fail students as they cannot meet the minimum required attendance.
Guests of honour, Chairman and Managing director of Geno Pharmaceuticals Dilip Salgaocar and his son Dr Sagar, executive director of Geno were also present on the occasion.
The selection team for the Geno awards also gave recognition to sportspersons from rural Goa honouring Government College, Quepem and special athlete, Suvet Lotlikar for powerlifting. Shrungi Bandekar bagged the emerging swimmer award which was collected by her mother as she is training out of the State.
The Top team award went to Goa Boxing team which is also training at the national camp at Delhi.
President SJAG welcomed the gathering and senior journalist Jovito Lopes compered while Glenn Costa proposed vote of thanks.
