Valpoi struggle, hold Siolim-Sodiem

MAPUSA: From two goals down to finishing the match 3-3, Valpoi Football Club showed good team spirit against Siolim-Sodiem Sports and Cultural Club in GFA’s Second Division League (Bardez zone) tie, at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday.

The score read 2-1 at half time.
Siolim-Sodiem started on a brighter note as Shailesh Misquin’s 12th minute effort from 20-yard out inspired them. They carried on the momentum and exploited their rivals with a combination of short as well as long passes.
Shailesh worked tirelessly and soon secured his brace in the 21st minute as he clipped the ball past the helpless rival keeper, 2-0.
Valpoi were demoralized to find themselves two goals down before the half hour mark. However, Safin Khan reduced the margin just before the break for a revival.
Post resumption, Valpoi took to the field with a motive and their plans worked out successfully through Chandan Govekar. The Chandan’s left-footed strike was just perfect as the Siolim-Sodiem custodian could only wave the ball goodbye.
Valpoi were in command with their fiery pace and at the hour mark they took the lead for the first time with Ashish Gawas intelligently chipping over advancing rival goalkeeper Salil Chari.
All was looking good for the Valpoi outfit but with 10 minutes to go for the final whistle, Siolim-Sodiem bounced back with a goal from Atish Mirajkar, 3-3.
The teams tried hard in search of the match-winner but eventually went out of steam and had to be content with a point each.
