MARGAO: Striker Milagres Fernandes continued his great form in the GFA First Division League as he scored a brace to guide Curtorim Gymkhana to a 2-0 victory over Corps of Signals, at DYSA ground, Curtorim on Wednesday.
There was no score at lemon break.
Both the teams started the game on an attacking note and Curtorim Gymkhana slowly took over their reins by troubling the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Both had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt edged chances.
Post resumption, Curtorim Gymkhana put up a improved display with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure.
Curtorim Gymkhana broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when striker Milagres received the pass from Velton D’Souza via Glaston Antao and the first named beat the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
Corps of Signals did show some character after conceding their goal but their fight back once again received a blow as Milagres completed his brace in the 65th minute.
In between Corps of Signals had a chance to reduce the deficits but Lalrumaze shot hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Corps of Signals supporters.
With this win, Curtorim Gymkhana collected 16 points from six matches while Corps of Signals have nine points from six encounters.
In another match at Rosary ground, Navelim, United Club of Telaulim blanked Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 2-0 after leading 1-0 at half time.
Egged by home crowd, United Club of Telaulim enjoyed the better share of exchanges in both the halves. United Club of Telaulim breakthrough came in the 6th minute when striker Aulon Gomes bulged the net off a pass from Stalin Baptista.
Spurred by the early success, United Club of Telaulim intensified their attacks but their forwards misfired from close range. Stung by setback, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao tried their best to neutralized the lead but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
After the break, United Club of Telaulim continued to dictate terms and fired pot shots against the rival goal. In the 89th minute, striker Alvito Colaco scored the insurance goal at the fag end off a well measured pass from Socorro Colaco. With this win, United Club of Telaulim took their tally to 13 points from six matches while Clube Sao Miguel de Talegiao have six points from same encounters.
At Santa Cruz ground, Penha de France drew with Goa Police Sports Club 1-1 while at Don Bosco ground, Panjim Guardian Angel, Sanvordem defeated Panjim Footballers 3-1.
