PANJIM: Velsao Pale Sports Club won the under-14 football championship organized by Goa Football Association defeating Salcete Football Club 2-0, at Raia ground, recently.
Eban Mesquita coached Velsao Pale started the proceedings in attacking style reading the Salcete citadel with furious attacks from both the flanks that caught the Salcete defence completely by surprise.
But luck ran out due to the goal post and crossbar coming their way. The Velsao Pale boys adopted short accurate passes and their midfielders Muktiar Shaikh and Denson Fernandes had their strikers time and again only to see their efforts strike the frame work.
In the second half Velsao Pale were all over Salcete FC’s territory and were finally rewarded when Regan Araujo’s strike came back from the crossbar only to see Denson, who pushed the ball to the far corner of the net.
Muton Fernandes made it 2-0 when he received a through ball from Denson. Salcete FC tried their best to come back in the game but the rock solid defense mastered by Perry Pereira gave no space whatsoever.
