The new colours of the team were unveiled by Joseph Sequeira, acting Sarpanch of Calangute Panchayat in the presence of Gajanan Kerkar, President of Calangute Association at the club premises, here, on Wednesday.
The Managing Committee members Padmakumar Nair (Vice-President), Fabiano De Souza (General Secretary), Marcelino Fernandes (Sports Secretary), Filipe Dias (assistant general secretary), Alirio Lobo, Arjuna Awardee and Ex-international football from Calangute Bruno Coutinho were present among other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion Gajanan Kerkar said, “I am happy to announce that the Village Panchayat of Calangute has agreed to support and sponsor our Pro League football team for the current season 2015-16. The Village Panchayat of Calangute will pitch in an amount of Rs 35 lakh to run the football team. Anthony D’Souza, ex-international footballer from Calangute and former coach of Sesa Football Academy will be the head coach while Agostinho Dias will be his assistant.”
“We will try and rope in good foreign players besides the local talent especially from our village of Calangute. We hope to get the desired results from the team with the financial assistance of Village Panchayat of Calangute and moral support from our former footballers of Calangute including Bruno Coutinho,” Kerkar added.
Joseph Sequeira in his address stated that, “The Village Panchayat of Calangute has decided to support our village football team of Calangute Association through the financial assistance extended to us by the business establishments of Calangute. We have appointed two of our panchayat members Savio Gonsalves and Matias D’Souza to coordinate and collaborate with the members of Calangute Association for the success of the Goa Pro League team. The Village Panchayat of Calangute has also opened Calangute Football Academy to groom talent at young age keeping in the mind the village football team. We hope to achieve success.”
Padmakumar Nair, Vice President also addressed the media persons while Fabiano proposed the vote of thanks.
