CURTORIM: Virabhat got the better of Corjem 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Jose and Franky Memorial, inter-ward football tournament, played at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Sunday.
Virbhat started the match on an attacking note with Frazier Casthana taking control of the ball from Movin Noronha, but his low power shot was easily saved by the rival keeper in the 4th minute.
Thereafter Corjem had a chance to score through Gilbert’s header but denied by the rival cross bar the next minute.
Virabhat increased their pressure on forefront with Nelson Fernandes and Alison Castana tormenting the rival defence. The duo had chances to break the deadlock in the 20th and 22nd minute respectively but both their efforts were saved by the rival keeper.
The second half saw both teams trying to score goals but the defence walls stood rock solid of both the teams till the final whistle. There was no score in the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Virabhat netted through Nelson, Jose, Edwin Baptist and Donald while for Corjem Alifton, Aiden, Gilbert and Sabito scored.
