PANJIM: When the entire state had anticipated a FC Goa—Churchill Brothers FC clash in the quarter-finals – the joy of watching two clubs battle in serious competition came as a blow after the Super Cup website announced in a statement that Jamshedpur have progressed as Churchill Brothers haven’t turned up for the match.
It is learnt that the Red Machines were still in Goa on late Monday night and weren’t sure of flying out to Bhubaneshwar and would not be participating in the tournament along with several other I-League clubs.
Speaking on condition of anonymity an I-League club official said, “Some clubs have come together and decided not to participate in the tournament due the various reasons”
FC Goa, who earlier defeated I-League side Indian Arrows in the R16 were scheduled to play the winner of the Jamshedpur FC –Churchill Brothers match, on April 6. FC Goa will now take on Jamshedpur FC in the quarter-finals clash.
According to sources, it was observed that Churchill Brothers were training at Assolna ground in a bid to prepare for the clash and had stopped their practices on Sunday. While the club fans thought the team had flown to Bhubaneshwar, the club had different plans.
