MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim edged past Rosman Cruz Nagao Sports Club 3-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Bernardo Furtado memorial football tournament, organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Tuesday.
In the first half, the teams enjoyed equal share of ball possession.
In the ninth minute, Wilred Leisure SC attacked through Agnelo Martins but his promising move was foiled by a rival defender.
In the 22nd minute, Rossman Cruz SC’s Santan Rego had a go but his left-footer was saved by the rival goalkeeper.
Crossing over, the trend continued but eventually, Rossman Cruz SC broke the deadlock through Santan Rego in the 43rd minute off an assist by Ajay Satarker. As the match progressed, Nelson Fernandes of Wilred Leisure SC was brought to the ground by a Rossman Cruz SC defender in the penalty area and the match referee awarded a penalty in the 51st minute which was converted by Nelson Fernandes.
However, Agnelo Martins of Wilfred Leisure Curtorim increased the lead by scoring 2-1 in the 56th minute with a volley and Nevil Fernandes made it 3-1 in the 58th minute with a grounder off a supply by Agnelo Martins. In the dying minutes, Ajay Starkar for Rossman Cruz SC reduced the margin.
