MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim were lucky to hold Salcete FC to a goalless draw in a First Division football league at Assolna ground, Tuesday.
For the major part of the match, it looked as if Salcete would troop out winners. They controlled the entire proceedings but were undone due to lack of sharpshooters.
Wilred were struggling and seldom troubled the rival defense.
Salcete’s best chance came in the 10th minute when striker Oilax Oliveira picked the ball from midfielder Selgan Gracias but the former’s rasping shot was blocked by Wilred goalkeeper Olivier D’Souza. Five minutes later
Salcete had yet another chance, but midfielder Francis Andrade’s feeble try was easily collected by Wilred goalkeeper Olivier.
Wilred created a scare but striker Bonnie Niasso’s header missed the mark narrowly off a chip from Agnelo Martins.
Salcete nearly found success midway in the first half but Joel Camara’s smart header missed the target by a few inches off a throw-in taken by Slegan Gracias.
Later, Salcete’s Francis Andrade sent a defense spitting pass inside the rival penalty box but striker Oilax muffed a sitter. Subsequently, substitute Treyson Costa failed to guide his header off a cross from Francis Andrade.
In between, Wilred came up with a superb move as Agnelo Martins picked the ball from his own half and unleashed a stiff shot but the Salcete goalkeeper rose to the occasion.
Salcete went all out and Joel Camara’s snap shot missed the mark narrowly and then Treyson Costa blew away an open chance.
With this draw, both Salcete and Wilred collected four points each from two encounters.
