PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club are set to face Shillong Lajong FC in their second fixture of the I-League 2024-25 season on Novemebr 30, at the SSA ground, Shillong, at 7 pm.
Returning to the I-League after a nine-year hiatus, the Golden Eagles showed promise in their opening game against Aizawl FC, earning their first point in a hard-fought goalless draw.
Reflecting on the match, Head Coach Samir Naik commended his team, saying, “It was our first game, and we played really well. The boys gave a solid performance.”
Meanwhile, Shillong Lajong also began their campaign with a spirited comeback. Trailing by two goals against Churchill Brothers, they clawed their way back to a draw, thanks to strikes from Tardin and Renan.
As the Golden Eagles prepare for their second away game, Coach Samir Naik emphasised the positive influence of Shillong’s cooler climate on their preparations.
“The weather here is much cooler compared to Aizawl. It’s actually ideal for football and we’ve prepared well. The team is ready for the challenge,” he expressed confidently.
The squad also received a boost with the return of midfielder Ariston Costa, who will add dynamism to the attack. Additionally, the highly anticipated Argentine recruit, Damian Perez, has completed his registration and is available for selection, further strengthening the team’s lineup.
However, the Golden Eagles will miss the services of left wing-back Daniel, who is sidelined for two to three weeks due to a partial tear in his lateral ligament. Despite this setback, the team is focused and determined to deliver a strong performance.
Facing the passionate Shillong Lajong supporters on their home turf presents a formidable test, but Coach Samir is confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“It’s a challenging game, but we are ready. As footballers, we must be prepared to perform anywhere,” he signed off.
