MAPUSA: New entrants YBT managed to hold mighty holders Dempo SC to a goalless draw in the GFA’s Goa Professional League held at Duler stadium here on Saturday.
After today’s drawn encounter Dempo has 7 points from three matches while YBT has one point after their second league match.
Dempo in charge Remus Gomes having won both their matches fielded almost the same side in his Starting XI while YBT Asst Coach Manuel Pio having lost to Sesa FA fielded eight new outstation players in his Starting XI.
While the Golden Eagles had better of ball possesion and attempts at the rival goal while YBT colts took time to settle did not have one single strike at the opponents goal.
In the very 4th minute Dempo’s medio Vinay Harji sent a long ball to Necio Fernandes just outside the penalty box whose strike sailed over the cross bar.
Minutes later this time Necio sent a through pass to Vieri Colaco whose hot blooded shot was blocked by YBT’s goalkeeper Sourav Chakraborty.
From the resultant corner this time Vieri Colaco control the ball but saw his grounder travel past the side post.
On resumption of play YBT had the first look at the rival goal when in the 51st minute Sawif Mollah sent a through pass to El Kilong but the later failed to keep his shot inside the framework.
It was the Golden Eagles from then on who pinned their opponents inside their own territory but the last line of YBT defense with their keeper failed bulge under pressure.
Pratik Naik and Saiesh Bagkar headers travelled out, while YBT’S goalkeeper Sourav Chakraborty came with stretched diving save to push Necio free kick for a corner.
Another glorious chance went a begging for Golden Eagles as Arnold Oliveira dribbled past the defender and goalkeeper but saw his lob sail over the horizontal bar to the dismay of his teammates and supporters.
In the closing stages once again Necio placement on entering the 18-yard box travelled just past the goal post
Dempo’s Saiesh Bagkar received the man of the match award from the hands of Mr Prasad Surlekar- Match Commissioner.
