MAPUSA: Young Boys of Tonca managed to survive a late fightback to overcome United Club of Telaulim 2-1 in GFA’S Second Division inter-district league at Sangolda ground, Friday. Tonca led 2-0 at the break.
In the 13th minute, Cedrick Fernandes swung a free kick into the near post, which Columban Noronha helped on for Chadrick Futardo to blast into the bottom corner of the net.
In the 28th minute, Tonca doubled their lead when Chadrick slid the ball across the face of goal for Vilroy D’Cruz to tap in from close range.
After the break, Telaulim were playing like a changed side.
In the 65th minute, Telaulim’s Mairon Fernandes rose to head in the box, but was clumsily tripped by Chadrick and the referee wasted no time in pointing to the spot.
Mairon picked himself up to slot the penalty past the Tonca custodian.
