The teams were locked 1-1 at half time.
With 10 minutes to go for the final whistle, Yogesh muscled past the rival defence to score the match-winner to send the Calangute fans into raptures.
Calangute Association took the lead in the 19th minute though Nigerian striker Felix Chidi Odili but Cavelossim equalized in the injury time through Skipper Mario Mascarenhas’ spot-kick.
In the second session, Cavelossim were reduced to 10 men as Melwin Fernandes received a direct red card for punching Caitano Viegas.
Backed by the vociferous crowd, Calangute Association started off in an attacking fashion which kept the rival defenders on their toes. Odili’s effort hit the side-netting early on while Rajat Chopdekar’s effort was blocked by rival custodian Ram Sroop.
Subsequently, Odili provided a delightful through ball to Gaurish Naik but Sroop came up with another block.
Calangute Association were not to be denied the opener in the 19th minute when skipper George D’Souza’s dangerous free-kick from the left flank left the rival defence wanting only for Felix to nod in from close range.
Cavelossim just could not get into a rhythm. Mario swung in numerous crosses in the danger zone from the right flank but neither Melwin nor Mathew Colaco could pose any danger.
In the injury time, Cavelossim were awarded a life line when Asley Fernnades’ goal bound shot was handled inside the 18-yard box by defender Meldon Silva.
Match referee Shaik Aboo was spot on and pointed out to the spot-kick from which Mario converted with ease as he sent the rival custodian Jason D’Mello the wrong way.
Post resumption, the match turned out to be a physical battle as Melwin intentionally brought down Calangute Association’s Caitano only to receive a direct red card in the 52nd minute.
Calangute Association made good use of the numerical advantage and with 10 minutes to go for the final whistle striker Yogesh tore the rival defence apart to squeeze in the match-winner past the hapless custodian Sroop.
