MAPUSA: Young Boys of Aradi A scored a hard fought 2-1 win over Murod Boys to clinch the Candolim Inter-Ward Soccer Cup, played at Candolim ground on Sunday.
It was the Murod Boys who broke the deadlock when in the early 3rd minute of play Nehal Naik set up Gauresh Korgaonkar who slotted the ball to the right of the keeper, 1-0.
Four minutes later Aradi almost levelled terms however Manjunath Gherede’s powerful strike was fisted away by Murod keeper Pratik Satardekar.
Changing ends, the Aradi colts held total domination of the match and managed to equalise in the 38th minute of play when Jackson Fernandes set up Cajie Colaco who finished off in style. Couple of minutes into the match Aradi took the lead when Shivram Achrekar guided home Manjunath Gherde’s cross, 2-1.
VP Candolim Sarpanch Blaise Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of VP Candolim Dy Sarpanch Ophelia Sequeira and other dignitaries.
